Welsh Actor To Invest in Cardiff Rugby Club

The fortunes at Whitchurch RFC who are celebrating their 125th anniversary appear to be going from good to even better with the news that Welsh film actor Ioan Gruffudd is in talks to invest in the club. Gruffudd who has starred in films such as  'Fantastic Four' and 'King Arthur'. Gruffudd was originally born in Aberdare however a family move to Whitchurch saw him study at nearby Ysgol Cymraeg Melin Gruffydd and Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf and later attended Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Gruffudd is a passionate Rugby supportor, this was evident when a recording of Gruffudd went viral on youtube of that famous world cup win over England in the group of death where Gruffudd was ecstatic bouncing around in his underwear.

Whitchurch RFC is community club based in the heart of North Cardiff who's player base is growing each week boasting seniors Men's, Womens teams, a Mini & Junior section and most recently a Girls Youth team. It is due to this success that the club were seeking an investor and reached out to the Hollywood actor.

"It is early days yet, we have spoken to Ioan a couple of times and seems really keen, we have been in regular contact with his PA and hope give more detail over the coming months but does involve sponsorship of our Womens team and a small investment in improving training facilities" Colin Griffiths, Chairman
